To ensure TILTCO products meet the most current standards for building applications across North America and the Caribbean, each product line is subject to a series of tests. Testing takes place to ensure that all products are engineered to surpass harsh weather conditions such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and seismic activity. TILTCO products have been inspected after the sixth worst Atlantic hurricane recorded, Hurricane Ivan, and have been shown to withstand this natural disaster without damage and were still functional. It is with confidence that all hybrid uPVC tilt and turn windows and doors are tested to Miami-Dade County standards and are Texas TDI approved.

Solutia Bat Test

The Solutia bat test clearly shows the difference between annealed glass and laminated glass. The advantage of Laminated glass is the combination of two or more glass sheets with one or more interlayers of plastic (PVB) or resin. In case of breakage, the interlayer holds the fragments together and continues to provide resistance to the passage of persons or objects.

Water Infiltration Test

The water infiltration test simulates the driving force of rain which creates pressure against a window/door/curtain wall section. Under these conditions the product is susceptible to leakage. If any leakage does occur the amount is quantified, otherwise the product passes the test successfully. TILTCO products have successfully passed water/air infiltration tests up to pressures of -/+80 pounds per square foot (psf).

The purpose of a wind pressure test is to simulate extremely strong winds experienced in hurricane weather conditions. The simulation is carried out on the window or door by applying positive and then negative pressure at 3 second cycles for an elapsed amount of time. These pressure cycles test whether the glass units will eject from the glazing cavity or remain stationary.

Large Missile Impact Test

This test depicts the impact of flying debris from hurricane force winds. The impact test is carried out with a 2”x4” piece of lumber between 6 to 8 feet in length. TILTCO windows and doors have been impact tested with a 2”x4” piece of lumber – being fired at a velocity of over 200 miles per hour. The glass, frame and sash must withstand the test without failure in order to pass.

Wind Pressure Test

The purpose of a wind pressure test is to simulate extremely strong winds experienced in hurricane weather conditions. The simulation is carried out on the window or door by applying positive and then negative pressure at 3 second cycles for an elapsed amount of time. These pressure cycles test whether the glass units will eject from the glazing cavity or remain stationary.
